وقد جاءت هذه الدراسة في مسيرة الفقه الإسلامي المعاصر وملامحه لتضيف لبنة إلى الدراسات المشابهة في تاريخ الفقه الإسلامي، حيث زخرت المكتبة الإسلامية بمؤلفات تفوق الحصر في الفقه الإسلامي عامة وفي تاريخ الفقه الإسلامي، وتفاوت العلماء في التوسع في تناول مسيرة الفقه المعاصرة بالتحليل والتوثيق، فبينما يشير عدد منهم إليها بسطور يفرد عدد منهم مؤلفاً خاصاً في جانب من هذه المسيرة.
وما يميز هذه الدراسة عن سابقاتها، أنها تتناول الدور المعاصر للفقه الإسلامي لتدرسه مستقلاً عن الأدوار الأخرى، كما إنها تدرس مسيرة الفقه الإسلامي المعاصر من جانب العوامل المؤثرة فيه والملامح البارزة فيه ولم تقتصر على جانب واحد أو جزئية بعينها، بالإضافة إلى ذلك واكب المؤلف المستجدات في التاريخ لهذا الدور لأن فيه كثيراً من الجديد.
وقد اعتمد المؤلف على هذه المؤلفات في تجميع مفردات الموضوع وإخراجه بالصورة التي ظهر عليها.
