حظيت لغة الإشارة في السنوات الأخيرة بإهتمام عالمي واسع فلم تعد لغة محصورة في ناطقيها فقط، بل تجاوزتهم لتدخل دائرة البحث والتّمحيص، وانتقلت من تعليمها في نطاق محدد في بعض المدارس، لتصبح لغة الحياة والعلم في جامعة (غالوديت) التي تعني بالتعليم العالي للصُّم في أمريكا.
وتنبع أهمية لغة الإشارة من كونها إحدى طرق الإتصال بين الأصم وأفراد مجتمعه، فلا يجوز أن تظل تلك الفئة من البشر محرومة من نعمة التواصل مع الكون من حولهم: فهم بحاجة إلى التعبير عن حاجاتهم المختلفة، ولذلك يقع على عاتقنا نحن الذين منّ الله تعالى علينا بنعمتي السّمع والنُطق أن تكون عوناً لهم في تطوير وسائل تعبيرهم وتذليل الصعوبات أمامهم ليصلوا إلى التعبير عن ذاتهم وحاجاتهم، ومساعدتهم في الخروج من عالم العزلة والخوف والإحباط إلى العالم، بل ودمجهم في الحياة الإجتماعية ومساعدتهم على التوازن والتكيف.
وإنطلاقاً من هذه الغاية وُلدت فكرة هذا الكتاب الذي جاء ليُسْهم في بناء جسور التواصل بين الصّم ومجتمعاتهم، وبين الصّم ولغتهم العربيّة حيث تتشابه في تراكيبهما في مواطن وتفترق في أخرى: لذا سعى هذا الكتاب لتوضيح تلك الرؤية والوقوف على تلك المواطن رغبة في تسهيل قواعد اللغة العربيّة على الصّم.
