الأحاديث النبوية والآثار المحمدية، أصل العلوم بعد القرآن، وقاعدة الشرع وأركان الإيمان، من أراد الله به خيراً وفقه لجمعها، وأرشده لتفهيمها وتقريرها.
وكان ممن اعتنى بهذا الفن أعظم عناية، شيخ الإسلام، حافظ عصره وأبرز الأعلام، قاضي القضاة، أبو الفضل شهاب الدين أحمد بن علي، الشهير بابن حجر.
فألف فيه كتابة وقراءة وسماعاً، وجمع منه فنوناً عديدة وأنواعاً، حتى صار المعول عليه في حفظ السنة.
وإن من الفنون التي عني بها الحافظ ابن حجر تتبعه لعواملي الأحاديث ذات الإسناد النظيف، والتقاطها من مروياته الكثيرة، فضلاً عن تخريجه لعوالي شيوخه وغيرهم.
وخرج أيضاً "الستين العشارية" للعراقي، ثم أبعها "الأربعين" التي خرجها لنفسه لتصير مئة، وسماها "العشارية الستين لتكمل مئة بالأربعين".
وخرج "العشرة العشارية" وهي التي بين أيدينا، وهي عشرة أحاديث، عدد ما بين الحافظ ابن حجر وبين النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من الأنفس عشرة، قال السخاوي: وكذا وقعت العشاريات لشيخي بالأسانيد المتماسكة. انتهى.
