يتناول كتاب المقدمات لمطبوعات المكتب الإسلامي للطباعة والنشر للشيخ زهير الشاويش، والمؤلف من ثلاثة مجلدات كبار، تتألف من 3275 صفحة. المقدمات والتعريف الكامل بالكتب التي طبعها المكتب الإسلامي في دمشق وبيروت، مع ذكر المؤلفين لها، والأصول المخطوطة لكل كتاب، والمقارنة بين المطبوع منها قديماً وحديثاً، والداعي إلى طباعته، والظروف التي تم بها الكتاب، وتحقيقه، ومراجعته، ومن ثم طباعته. وقد شملت كتب الحديث والفقه والسيرة وتراجم الرجال والأدب وغيرها من الموضوعات. والكتاب سوف يكمَّل بخمسة أجزاء، عجَّل الله إنجازه، وهو عناوين، وفهرست لكثير من مطبوعات المكتب الإسلامي. وقد أثنى عليه جمع من العلماء ورجال العلم وغيرهم ممن طالع هذا الكتاب، فوجدوا فيه شرح وتعريف واف لكل كتاب قدم له.
وقد قال عنه السيد عباس علي الموسوي في تجمع العلماء المسلمين في لبنان: ... هذه المقدمات التي كشفت عن باع طويل في هذه البضاعة ... أدركت مدى المعاناة للوصول إلى هذه الخلاصة التي يقدمها للقارئ، إذ لا يمكن لإنسان أن يقدِّم كتاباً ما لم يقرأه ويعرف ما فيه، ويفهم المعنى الذي يرمي إليه في فصوله ومسائله، وهذا يحتاج إلى جهد وعناء، وصبر وإناة.
