يلاحظ المتتبع لما كتب عن نكبة فلسطين عام 1948م، وما ترتب عليها من لجوء وتشرد، أن كتباً عديدة أصدرها أبناء النكبة يتحدثون فيها عن مدنهم وقراهم، كتباً تفيض بالحنين والعواطف والذكريات الحميمة وإحصاءات تتعلق بالمدينة، ومواقع وعائلات وعادات والكثير من التفاصيل الأخرى.
لا شك أن هذه الظاهرة ظاهرة صحية لما لها من فوائد تدفع، في نهايتها، إلى التمسك بحق العودة، وهي ظاهرة تنبع من محبة المؤلف لمدينته أو قريته العزيزة، ولا غرو في ذلك، فمعظم اللاجئين عام 1948م كانوا يسكنون في الساحل الفلسطيني وما تشرف عليه منحدرات جبال الجليل والكرمل وجبال نابلس والقدس والخليل، وهي من أجمل مناطق العالم وأخصبها تربة وألطفها مناخاً.
أما هذا الكتاب (مدينة اللد) لمؤلفه المرحوم الدكتور مصطفى محمد الفار، الذي عاصر النكبة عموماً، ونكبة مدينة اللد بخاصة، فإن لم يترك شاردة ولا واردة لا أحصاها بحيث يشعر القارئ كأنه يعيش في هذه المدينة قبل حلول النكبة، وأنه يستعجل العودة إليها ليعيش في جنتها -حيث كانت هذه المدينة من أخصب مدن فلسطين- المشهور بخصب تربتها وطيب مناخها وتعدد مزروعاتها.
وتكشف نكبة مدينة اللد عن جوانب مهمة من نكبة فلسطين عموماً، وهي جوانب المقاومة والمذابح، والنزوح القسري، ومن ثم التشرد.
