لقد اختلف الفقهاء والمحدّثون في مدى صحة انتساب التفسير المنسوب الى الإمام الحسن العسكري (عليه السلام) منذ القرن الرابع الهجري حتى يومنا هذا .
غير أن المعلوم هو أن الإمام العسكري (عليه السلام) قد أثرت عنه مجموعة لا بأس بها من النصوص في مجال تفسير القرآن الكريم . وقد تناثرت جملة من هذه النصوص في المصادر الموجودة بأيدينا اليوم[4]. فالخلاف اذاً هو حول الكتاب الذي يُنسب إليه ، وليس في ظاهرة التفسير التي اختص بها عصره وعرفت عنه .
واذا لاحظنا الظرف الذي عاشه الإمام (عليه السلام) من جهة ونسبة هذا التفسير إليه من جهة ، ولاحظنا محتوى هذا التفسير من جهة ثالثة ، وطابقنا محتواه مع ما روي عنه في سائر المصادر نكون قد وقفنا على نقاط واضحة وأخرى محتملة مشكوكة تحتاج إلى أدلة قوية للاثبات . أما ظرف الإمام وعصره من حيث الاهتمام بالقرآن الكريم فقد عرفنا أن الكندي ـ كفيلسوف محترف ـ كان قد تصدّى لنسف اعتبار القرآن الكريم وإبطال جانب من جوانب إعجازه .
وهذا التصدي منه وتصدّي الإمام (عليه السلام) لردعه عما كان ينويه بشكل منطقي يدلّ على شدة اهتمامه بالقرآن في ذلك الظرف وفاعليته في الحياة الفكرية والاجتماعية ومدى أهمية حركة التفسير التي كان يقوم بها العلماء في إظهار عظمة الاُمة الاسلامية من خلال حملها للقرآن الكريم ، فكان من الطبيعي أن يؤكد الإمام (عليه السلام) هذا الجانب بإغناء الاُمة الاسلامية بعلمه الذي كان يتفرّد به هو وآباؤه الكرام ، فإنهم معدن العلم في هذه الأمة بل في العالم أجمع بعد رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) وهم أهل بيت الوحي حيث نزل القرآن في بيتهم فهم أدرى بما في البيت من غيرهم ، وكل العلماء تبع لهم وعيال عليهم في معرفة القرآن وعلومه ، كما اعترف بذلك المؤالف والمخالف وكما تفصح عنه سيرتهم جميعاً بدءً بأمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب وانتهاءً بالإمام الحسن العسكري (عليهم السلام) .
