مسند الإمام الشافعي" مسند معروف متداول بين أهل الحديث والفقه، وهو كتاب لم يؤلفه الإمام الشافعي، وإنما التقط من رواة أبي العباس الأصم عن الربيع بن سليمان المرادي عن الشافعي من كتاب الأم وغيره فهو ينسب إلى الشافعي باعتبار أنه مجموع من رواياته إلا أنه لم يستوعب جميع روايات الشافعي في كتبه.
وكتاب شرح المسند للإمام الرافعي هو كتاب هام يستفيد منه كل طالب علم ويكفيك أن شارح المسند هو الإمام الرافعي وتتلخص أهميته في التالي: 1- أهم ما يميز الكتاب ذكرهُ للحديث من المسند بكامل السند والمتن، مع الكلام على الفروق الواردة بين النسخ التي كانت لديه والتعليق عليها. 2- كما عرَّف الإمام الرافعي رجال المسند تعريفاً دقيقاً مع بيان طرفٍ من حالهم، وهذا مما ينفردُ له التصنيف من غيره ولم يفته إلا القليل وقد تكلمت على ما فاته قدر المستطاع. 3- وأيضاً فإنهُ خرَّج أحاديث المسند، نعم كان تخريجه موجزاً لكن بين منه حكم الحديث، ولم يفته إلا القليل وقد بينته أيضاً. 4- كما بيّن الإمام الرافعي معاني ألفاظ وعبارات الأحاديث مع ذكر الاحتمالات الواردة فيها. 5- وأيضاً فإنه تعقب الإمام أبا العباس الأصم فيما أخطأ فيه على الإمام الشافعي وبين ذلك في موضعه، كما أنه بين بعض الأوهام الواقعة لبعض الحفاظ. 6- كما بين غريب الحديث وأوضحه إيضاحاً جيداً مع ذكر أقوال أهل الشأن في ذلك كالإمام الخطابي والجوهري وغيرهم. 7- كما أنه توسع في ذكر الاستدلالات الفقهية التي يمكن استنباطها من الأحاديث الواردة. 8- كما أنه كثيراً ما يذكر آراء وأقوال الفقهاء مع ذكر الاستدلالات والترجيح أحياناً؛ لذا فإن شرحه كان غنياً بأحاديث الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم. 9- كما أنه قد نقل عن بعض الكتب التي لم نقف عليها مثل مسند محمد بن أسلم وفوائد محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد الحكم وغيرها. 10- ولأهميته استفاد الكثير من علمائنا من شرحه واعتمدوا عليه
