يسعى مؤلف هذا الكتاب الأستاذ الباحث الباور الضامن دراسة حالة البدو، وقبيلة الموالي خاصة، وتحديداً بطن الطّوقان، أحد أهم مكونات قبيلة الموالي، لما له من إمتداد تاريخي موغل في القدم، وذلك سعيّاً منه إلى إثراء المكتبة العربية بدراسة وبحث لم يأخذ حقّه من الدرس.
ولقد بدأ دراسة هذه بدراسة النسب عند القبائل العربية، الذي لا بد منه لكل دراسة حول القبائل، وهو ما يميز المجتمع القبلي، حيث تحدث بإستفاضة مطلوبة في شأن البدو، وخصوصاً حلهم وترحالهم وبضاعتهم، وتوسع في دراسة حال بضاعة البدو كالإبل والخيل، وأسلحة البدو القديمة، والقهوة، ومنازل البدو الإجتماعية.
ولقد توزعت الدراسة في سبعة أبواب، جاء الباب الأوّل مشتملاً على دراسة مستفيضة حول النَّسب، والعصبية القبلية، وطبقات المجتمع العربي، وفي الباب الثاني، تم التطرق بشيء من التفصيل إلى الطبيعة المميزة للبادية، جغرافياً، والحياة البريَّة، وفي الباب الثالث، ساق المؤلف دراسة حول أسلحة القبائل عبر التاريخ، ودرس في الباب الرابع، قبيلة الموالي من حيث الأصل، ثم دراسة حول (آل أبو ريشة) الذين واكبوا مسيرة تشكيل هذه القبيلة، وخصص في الباب الخامس، حول بطن الطُوقان في سوريا، واقتصر الباب السادس على دراسة أفخاذ الطوقان القبليّين، والعشائر المجاورة لهم في منطقة العلا، وخصص الكتاب معظم الباب السابع لدراسة حال جذم الطوقان في نابلس، ثم ختم الكتاب الباب السابع بملاحق الكتاب من أختام وبعض الوثائق، ثم ذكر الكتاب المصادر والمراجع، ومن ثمّ الفهارس.
