"تقريري إلى غويكو" ليس سيرة ذاتية، فحياتي الشخصية لها بعض القيمة، وبشكل نسبي تماماً، بالنسبة لي وليس بالنسبة لأي شخص آخر، والقيمة الوحيدة التي أعرفها فيها كانت في الجهود من أجل الصعود من درجة إلى أخرى للوصول إلى أعلى نقطة يمكن أن توصلها غليها قوتها وعنادها، القمة التي سميتها تسمية اعتباطية بـ"الإطلالة الكريتية".
ولذلك فإنك، أيها القارئ، ستجد في هذه الصفحات الأثر الأحمر الذي خلفتع قطرات من دمي، الأثر الذي يشير إلى رحلتي بين الناس والعواطف والأفكار. كل إنسان، يستحق أن يدعي بابن الإنسان، عليه أن يحمل صليبه ويصعد جلجلته. كثيرون، والحقيقة معظمهم، يصلون إلى الدرجة الأولى أو الثانية. ثم ينهارون لاهثين في منتصف الرحلة، ولا يصلون إلى ذروة الجلجلة، بمعنى آخر ذروة واجبهم. أن يصلبوا، وأن يبعثوا، وأن يخلصوا أرواحهم. تضعف قلوبهم لخوفهم من الصلب، وهم لا يدرون أن الصليب هو الطريق الوحيد للبعث، ولا طريق غيره.
كانت هناك أربع درجات حاسمة في صعودي. وتحمل كل منها اسماً مقدساً: المسيح، بوذا، لينين، أوليس. ورحلتي الدامية بين كل من هذه الأرواح العظيمة والأرواح الأخرى هي ما سوف أحاول جاهداً أن أبين معالمه في هذه "اليوميات"، بعد أن أوشكت الشمس على المغيب -إنها رحلة إنسان يحمل قلبه في فمه وهو يصعد جبل مصيره الوعر والقاسي. فروحي كلها صرخة. وأعمالي كلها تعثيب على هذه الصرخة.
طوال حياتي كانت هناك كلمة تعذبني وتجددني، وهي كلمة "الصعود". وسأقدم هذا الصعود. وأنا أمزج هنا الواقع بالخيال، مع آثار الخطى الحمراء التي خلفتها روائي وأنا أصعد. وإنني حريص على الانتهاء بسرعة قبل أن أعتمر "خوذتي السوداء"، وأعود إلى التراث. لأن هذا الأثر الدامي هو العلامة الوحيدة التي ستتبقى من عبوري إلى الأرض. فكل ما كتبته أو فعلته كان مكتوباً أو محققاً على الماء، وقد تلاشى.
