يقول العبد الفقير إلى الله تعالى مفتي إدلب حسن ابن العلامة المفضال السيد محمد طاهر منلا الكيالي الرفاعي: لقد كنت في حلبَ في بيت ابن عملي المرحوم السيد محيي الدين الكيالي، فأطلعتني بنت عمي زوجته على أوراق قديمة، فوجدت من بينها مسودةَ مجموعةِ تاريخ ألَّفها المرحوم والده العالم الفاضل السيد: محمد كامل النائب الكيالي، ذكر فيها تراجم العلماء من السادة الكيالية الذين استوطنوا إدلب.
فابتدأ من الجد الرابع السيد: إسماعيل الكيالي الذي حضر من قرية كفروريان، واستوطن إدلب، وذكر ترجمة أولاده والبعض من ذراريهم، ثم ذكر بعض تراجم علماء إدلب الذين حضروا من بعض القرى المجاورة، واستوطنوا فيها من غير العائلة الكيالية، وصاروا علماء أعلاماً؛ فوجدته أثراً تاريخيّاً لذكرى هؤلاء الأفاضل، وأحببت نقله... وذكرى للمرحوم مؤلفه السيد الكامل المومأ إليه، والذي يظهر من القراءة فيه أن المؤلف جَدَّ في تحصيل التراجم، سواء كانت من المعاصرين له من المعمَّرين، أو من مطالعة بعض تراجمهم من التواريخ، والذي يظهر أيضاً من مطالعة المسودة التي كتبها أنه يريد أن يكمل لبعض العلماء والصلحاء والأدباء تراجمَهم ولكن عاجلته المنيَّة، لأن الكثير من التراجم فيها ترك مجالاً لإتمام بعض الترجمة.
وعليه، فقد أخذت المسودة التاريخية، بأمرها، ونقلتها لهذا الكتاب بعد أن عانيت مشقة في النقل رغم أنه حسن الخط؛ لأن فيها رصداً وطمساً وتعليقاً بين الأسطر، ولكن بحمده تعالى أتممتها، وذكرت في بعض التراجم الملاحظات عليها، يعلمها القارئ من التنبيه عليها؛ وبعد إنتهاء ما نقلته من المسودة المذكورة رغبت أن أذكر البعض من رجالات العلم الأعلام عندنا في إدلب؛ تتميماً لهذا الأثر التاريخي.
