جاء هذا الكتاب لعامة المسلمين ليعرفوا فضل آبائهم وأمهاتهم وحقوقهما عليهم، وواجباتهم نحوهما وكيف أوصى الله سبحانه وتعالى بهما وأمر بالاحسان إليهما وببرهما في حياتهما وطاعتهما ووجوب شكرهما وتكريمهما ووجوب الانفاق عليهما ووجوب لين الجانب لهما وخفض الجناح لهما والدعاء لهما والشفقة عليهما وتوقيرهما، وبرهما بعد موتهما وصلة أهل ودهما وصلة الرحم التي لا توصل الا بهما واكرام صديقهما والأدب معهما وتحملهما وعظم حقهما والحرص على راحتهما. وعلى المسلم أن يعلم كيف عظم الله تعالى حق الوالدين حتى جعل رضاه في رضاهما وأنهما جنة الولد وناره وأن الانسان عاجز عن أداء حقهما مهما فعل فهما حملاه وربياه وأنجباه وكانا أحرص عليه من العين على النظر ومن الاذن على السمع. من أجل ذلك كله جاء هذا الكتاب ليبين عظم بر الوالدين.
