يأتي هذا الكتاب ضمن مشروع يرمي من خلاله المؤلف إلى تكريس موسوعة معمارية يأتي على نشرها تباعاً، والتي صدر منها عشرون جزءاً، والكتاب هذا هو الواحد والشرون في هذه الموسوعة، إلا أنه الثاني من مؤلف اللاند سكيب وتصميم المواقع وهو يضم مشاريع متميزة لهذا الفرع من فروع التصاميم المعمارية. وقد كان إختيار هذه المشروعات مادة وموضوعاً لهذا الكتاب ما يلي: ما يقوم به تخطيط المواقع من دور عظيم في الترفيه، لاسيما في المدن والأماكن الاخرى التي بها الشواطئ وأماكن الإصطياف. التنوع الكثير الذي ظهرت عليه هذه المشروعات ولا شك أن هذا التنوع الشديد يفرض على المعماري الذي يضطلع بمهمة تصميم المواقع العامة الإلمام التام بأهداف ومتطلبات كل نوع، حتى يأتي تصميمه في النهاية، ملبياً لهذه الأهداف وتلك المتطلبات. تعد المواقع بدقة تصاميمها، وجمال مظهرها، وتنسيق عناصرها واجهة حضارية لأي مشروع. ولقد أصبح تخطيط المواقع يحتل جزءاً أساسياً من المخطط العام لأية مدينة جديدة. وهذا أمر ينبغي أخذه بعين الإعتبار. لهذا وغيره يأتي هذا الكتاب الذي هو تكملة للجزء الأول من هذا الموضوع وهو الإعتبارات الهندسية لتصميم المواقع العامة واللاند سكيب، وهو عبارة عن أهم مشروعات اللند سكيب القديمة ولاحديثة وحدائق الحيوان وحدائق الأحياء المائية والميادين العامة. وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن هذا المجلد يعد من أكثر المجلدات تنوعاً وأكثرها في سلسلة اللاند سكيب ( التصميمات البيئية ). ولأن التصميم البيئي يعني الرغبة في العودة إلى الطبيعة والزيادة الوعي البيئي، فقد إصطدم ذلك مع الحاجز الذي تصنعه الإهتمامات الإجتماعية والإقتصادية. من هنا ناقش الكتاب بعض المشاربع التي تعد وفي هذا السياق أمثلة لكيفية التوفيق بين متطلبات الراحة عن طريق وسيلة معالجة تحترم البيئة والطبيعة. وقد تم تقديم المشروعات على أساس تقسيمها إلى ثلاثة أنواع مختلفة وذلك بهدف وجود أماكن لقضاء أوقات الراحة والإستمتاع بالطبيعة والبيئة المحيطة. وهي: 1-حدائق الحيوان، 2-المنتزهات الرئيسية، 3-منتزهات التسلية.
