«وبعدُ فالنُّخبةُ في علم الأثر مُختصَرٌ يا حبذا من مُختصَر» يا حبّذا ما لفَّه ابن حجر، وحبَّذاه ما المناوي نشر، كتاب حفظ لنا ما طواه الزمان ممّا أُلِّف في علم مصطلح الحديث، إذ رغم تحقيقه ما ندب الكتاب إليه من بسطه لما اختزلته النُّخبة وحلِّه ما استشكل من معنًى وضبطه ما استعجم من لفظٍ، وترجيحه ما ساقه المؤلف من الخلاف وتخريجه آثارها وتمثيله لمصطلحاتها ومسائلها؛ كان فهرستًا لمصنَّفات هذا العلم سواءً بما اتَّصل بالنخبة من حواشٍ نفيسةٍ إضافة إلى اقتباساتٍ أشبهت لُحمة الفضَّة فيما سُداه الإبريسم. فكان ما سمّاه مؤلِّفه بـ: «نتيجة الفكر بشرح نخبة ابن حجر»، تأليف: «زين الدين عبد الرؤوف بن تَاج العارفين ابْن عَليّ بن زين العابدين الحدادي المناوي» وابنه: «تاج الدين محمد».
