يعتقد البعض أن السعادة تختبئ في الزواج، ويعتقد البعض الآخر العكس. والحقيقة التي يؤمن بها علم النفس هي أن الزواج لا يحل أي مشكلة جنسية أم عاطفية أم نفسية، أحياناً. لذا لا بد للإنسان من أن يميز بين السعادة الحقيقية والسعادة المزيفة... إذ كثيراً ما نشعر أننا سعداء ولكننا في الواقع نكون نقيض ذلك، وفريسة أوهام السعادة. وحتى تدرك إذا كنت سعيداً حقاً، عليك أن تراقب نشاطاتك وتحركاتك، فهل عقاربها تشير إلى أماكن السعادة أم لا؟ وهل سعادتك ترتكز على أمور زائلة مؤقتة أم على قيم خالدة. ويمكن تطبيق مفهوم السعادة المطلق على مفهوم السعادة الزوجية التي يجب على كل زوجين النظر إليها بتعقل كي لا تؤول حياتهما الزوجية التي كانت مصدر للسعادة إلى حياة زوجية تكون مصدراً للتعاسة.
وفي هذا الإطار يأتي كتاب "القضايا المعاصرة عند الرجل والمرأة" الذي يبحث فيما يخص العلاقات العامة بين الرجل والمرأة بصورة عامة وما يخص أيضاً الرجل والمرأة في مسألتي الزواج والطلاق بصورة خاصة، يسلط الكاتب الضوء على فلسفة الحياة مستجلياً فلسفة مفهوم السعادة والتعاسة عند كل من الرجل والمرأة من خلال التجارب الحياتية مستعرضاً مشاكل وأزمات تمر بالحياة الزوجية تعرّض المؤسسة الزوجية لمخاطر تخلق أحياناً الكثير من الإشكالات والأمراض الاجتماعية التي يصعب في كثير من الأحيان حلها.
حاول المؤلف من خلال ذلك كله إعطاء القارئ المؤشرات الرئيسة، مستنداً إلى بعض التجارب والأبحاث التي كان قد قرأها حول هذا الموضوع المتعلق بالواقع النفسي والاجتماعي لمستقبل العلاقة التي تسبق الزواج. والغاية مساعدة كل من الرجل والمرأة على اجتياز المتاعب التي تعترضهما قبل وبعد الزواج والكشف عن بعض الأمور التي تسبب النفور بين الزوجين التي لا تؤدي عادة إلى الطلاق الفعلي، بل إلى ما هو أو هي ألا وهو حياة مضطربة تجعل الزوجين غير قادرين على التمتع بالحياة الزوجية بمفهومها الكامل.
