إذا كانت الكتابة الروائية نشاطاً، فمن البديهي أن يكون لمثل هذا النشاط فاعل ينهض به، وموضوع فعل أو منتوج يحققه، وغاية أو هدف يسعى إليه، وسياق يتنزل فيه، لذلك ارتأينا لهذا الكتاب أن يقوم على ركائز ثلاث: أن يتبين العناصر الحكائية في الروايات المعينة، وأن يكشف قوانين إنتظامها فيها، وان يتبين رواتها وأشكال حضورهم وكيفيات عرضهم لمواد حكاياتهم، ثم يحاول الكتاب أن يضع هذه الروايات في سياقاتها الحافّة بها والمؤثرة في إنتاجها.
ولكي يتسنّى وصف هذه الروايات وتحليلها ثم ربطها بسياقاتها المنتجة، توسلنا بما اجترحناه من المنجز النقديّ، واستعنا بما رأيناه ظهيراً ييسّر فكّ مغالق هذه النصوص، وخاصة ما حققته السرديات، وما أقرّته المناهج الإنشائية والحقول المتاخمة إياها، كنظريات التلقي والتناصّ، وعلم إجتماع الأدب وغيرها.
ونرى لزاماً أن ننبّه إلى الخطوات الإجرائية التالية التي اعتمدناها في هذا البحث، وكانت لنا فيه هادياً.
إننا بقدر ما نحرص على وصف هذه النصوص الروائية وتحليلها بوصفها بنى منعزلة منغلقة على نفسها، نحاول أن نفتحها على سياقاتها التي أنتجتها أو التي كان لها دور في إنتاجها وتأثير فيه، وبما أنّ البحث فيما هو خارج - نصّيّ مغامرة أو مجازفة تترصدها مزالق كثيرة، حيث لا شيء يهدي سوى التخمين والإحتمال، ولا نتيجة يتوصّل إليها إلا بالمغالبة والتأويل، فقد رأينا أن نتقيد بما سماه الإنشائيّون النصوص المصاحبة، وأن نتخذها منطلقاً للبحث في علاقة هذه الروايات بسياقاتها.
