En publiant cette grammaire élémentaire, nous nous prosons: 10 de donner au lecteur une idée exacte et assez complete des principes et du genie de la langue arabe; 20 de lui apprendre à appliquer ces principes au langage vulgaire, don’t nous indiquons les particularités.
Dans l’ordre des matières et l’exposé des principes, nous avons suivi l’excellente grammaire du P. Gabriel Eddé, S. J. (I), avec quelques emprunts de détail, faits à la grammaire de Sylvestre de Sacy (2e edition, 1831, annotée par M. Fleischer, Leipzig, 1885) et à celle de P. Caspari (édition française d’E. Uricoechea, 1881.
Quant aux particularités du langage usuel, nous avons consultavons consulté, outre notre propre expérience, les Principes de la langue arabe, publié en 1862 par le P. A. Abougit, S. J. et le Guide pratique de l’arabe parlé, publié en 1894, par Josph Harfouche, professeur à l’Université St Joseph à Beyrouth.
