" سنوات قبل الفجر" رواية شاب اسمه عيسى تحول إلى كلب، وبينما هو مختبئ أسفل قبر مظلم توالت في ذهنه تفاصيل حياته منذ ولادته في حجرة من الصفيح، حيث ترعرع صحبة والديه وسبعة من إخوته، في عالم مفكك، يتصارع قاطنوه بحثا عن التماسك والسعادة.
من الناحية السياسية العالم تسيره حكومة عربية ذات توجه قومي، أما من الناحية الطبيعية فثمة بحر غريب ظهر في السماء واسمه بحر العذراء. في مثل هذه الأجواء المتقلبة يبدأ عيسى بحثه عن السعادة ومعنى الحياة. وقد زجت به مسيرته في دروب تعج بالاضطراب والمفارقات، حيث بدأ حياته متسكعا يقتل القطط والكلاب، قبل أن يعلن التوبة وينخرط في صفوف الشباب الإسلامي. وبعد سنوات أصبح قوميا متطرفا، إلا أنه سرعان ما تحول إلى ثوري ماركسي، لكنه في النهاية لبى نداء الواقع فتحول إلى التجارة وراكم ثروة مهمة.
