"صلاة إلى بتول" مسرحية من تأليف وليم فولكر ، أعدها للمسرح ألبير كامو، تفتتح أولى مشاهدها بمحاكمة فتاة زنجية تدعى نانسي، تجد نفسها متهمة بجريمة قتل عن سابق تصور وتصميم، الطفل الأصغر للسيد والسيدة غوان ستافنس في بلدة جفرسون، حيث كانت نانسي تعمل كخادمة لدى عائلة السيد غوان اللذان كانا يتمتعان بحال من الرفاهية المنقطعة النظير، ولكن هذا في الظاهر فقط، إذ يبدو أنهما يحملان سراً كبيراً وراء مقتل الطفل، وهذا السر لا تعرفه سوى تلك الخادمة التي فضلت السكوت والقبول بحكم الإعدام على البوح به والذي لن يكشف عنه حتى آخر فصول المسرحية .. "ليس من حاكم يجرؤ على أن يعفو عن قاتلة طفل، أبناء وطننا يحبون العدالة، يشعلون النار في السجن. غير أننا كنا نراها، في كل مساء، من هذا الأسبوع، ما عدا البارحة مساء، لو كان عندها ما تقوله، لتكلمت مع المحامي ...".
وعلى هذا ترصد المسرحية طبيعة العلاقة بين البيض والسود، والتفرقة العنصرية، التي كان يدفع ثمنها السود، حيث تدور أحداث الرواية بين الحربين العالميتين الأولى والثانية، وتكشف بشخوصها، وأحداثها، ووقائعها بيئة غير صحية تسود المجتمع بما فيها البغاء والتشرد والنفاق والفساد في الأنظمة والقوانين وغير ذلك.
