تتضمن الدراسة أيضًا عرضًا مفصلًا لمعنى اللحن وأسبابه وأثره في بلاغة الكلام فنظرة العلماء إلى التسامح في وقوعه من بعض الطوائف والمؤلفات التي اهتمت به قديمًا وحديثًا ثم عرضًا لمقاييسه وتطبيقًا لهذه المقاييس ومحاولة لوضع مقياس مختار مصحوب بأمثلة توضحه حتى لا يترك أمر اللحن سبهللًا بين يدي كل من هب ودب ونهبًا لكل متربص بالفصحى محاول هدم صرحها ولكنها ستبقى على الدهر وإن كره الهادمون.
