تعد دراسة مناهج المؤرخين المسلمين مهمة لمعرفة مراحل تطور التدوين التاريخي الإسلامي، وتشكل التراجم نمطاً تاريخياً فاعلاً لوضع مرتسم تاريخي لمفهوم (النخبة الإجتماعية)، ولعل كتاب المؤرخ الذهبي الموسوم بـ (العبر في خبر من غبر) من المصادر التاريخية المعتمدة في هذا المجال، إذ امتلك الذهبي تصوراً قوامه أن (النخبة الإجتماعية) هي النخبة التاريخية للأمة الإسلامية.
لمعرفة مديات التأثر الحضاري للنخبة الإجتماعية، فقد تم تصميم جداول التوزيعات الزمانية والمكانية للنخب الإجتماعية على وفق إختصاصاتها بالإعتماد على المنهج الكمي الإحصائي Quantitave Method لمعرفة أبعاد منهج الذهبي في كتابه (العبر في خبر من غبر).
وتكمن أهمية الدراسة بوصفها محاولة لإبراز الصورة التفاعلية لحضارة الأمة الإسلامية بإختصاصاتها الدينية والعلمية والسياسية والإقتصادية المختلفة، والحوادث التي أثرت عليها وبين إبراز صورة لأدوار الأعيان الذين أثبتهم الذهبي على مدى ثمان قرون بوصفهم نخبة إجتماعية أثرت بشكل واضح على تنمية الوعي الحضاري للأمة الإسلامية، وكانت تلك النخب موضوع رضا وقبول إجتماعي على المستويات الفكرية والحضارية شتى.
