صدر هذا الكتاب في طبعته الأولى عام 1995م، ترجمة إلى العربية الأستاذ "عادل المعلم"، وموضوعاته عرضها المؤلف في سبعة مباحث متفاوتة في القصر والطول، وهي: "قليل من مستقبليات الإسلام، قليل من التفاؤل، مراجعة المسيحية، ما الذي قام الإسلام ضده؟، الإسلام والغرب، كيف يمكن خدمة الإسلام؟، المهمة التي أمامنا"... ويعد كتابه هذا "الإسلام عام 2000" ثمرة جهد طويل، ونظر عميق في واقع الحضارات المعاصرة والصراعات الأيديولوجية والمذهبية والفكرية.
والقارئ المسلم الواعي لهذا الكتاب لابد أن يوافق المؤلف في كثير مما أودعه كتابه هذا، وأن يخالفه الرأي في كثير من اقتراحاته التي وضعها لخدمة الإسلام، وكذلك فهمه لبعض القيم والتوجيهات الإسلامية، مع التماس العذر له فيما لم يحالفه فيه التوفيق، فالرجل مخلص في دعوته فيما نحسب، ونشير هنا إلى أننا نحييه على مجهوده هذا، الذي يضيف جديداً بحق للقراء في موقف الشمال الصليبي من الجنوب الإسلامي، على حد تعبيره هو نفسه، وعملنا في هذه القراءات الفاحصة لكتاب "الإسلام عام 2000م" أن نكون واسطة بين هذا الكتاب وبين القارئ المسلم مع التنبيه على ما عرضه المؤلف من رؤى ومقترحات كان أساسها الخطأ في الفهم عنده، أو عدم الإحاطة بحقائق غابت عنه، لو أنه وقف عليها لتغيرت مواقفه في كثير مما قال، ونرجو ان نوفق في ما نذكره من نتائج قراءتنا الفاحصة حسب المباحث السبعة التي احتواها الكتاب.
