دوّن فقهاء الإسلام فتاواهم في الحوادث والوقائع في تصانيف مستقلة، سميت في بلاد المشرق بكتب الفتاوى، وفي ديار الغرب الإسلامي بكتب النوازل، والمكتبة الإسلامية زاخرةٌ بهذا النوع من المؤلفات التي هي من أهم كتب التراث الفقهي، لما فيها من الفقه الحيوي الذي يمس واقع الناس وما يتجدّدُ من حاجاتهم، ويسجّل صوراً واقعيةً لأحوال العصر المدوَّنةِ فيه تلك الفتاوى.
و(ديوان الفتاوى) سلسلةٌ علمية؛ اختارت لها دار الفتح للدراسات والنشر مجموعةً من مهمات كتب الفتاوى والنوازل التي لم يسبق تحقيقها، وتأمل بذلك أن تضع بين أيدي العلماء والباحثين وجمهور القرّاء نميراً ثراً من فتاوى الأئمة في أبواب الفقه المختلفة على امتداد العصور، هادفةً من ذلك إلى إمداد البحوث الشرعية وهيئات الإفتاء بما يمكن أن يحويه هذا الديوان من مادةٍ لحلولٍ وآراءٍ مبتكَرة.
وهذا الكتاب احتوى فتاوى فقيهٍ عالم، ووَرعٍ زاهد، عاش في القرن التاسع الهجري، وبقيت فتاواه في مخطوطٍ عليه مغاليقُ لا يعرفه كثيرٌ من الناس، وإن كان سائراً علمُه في فتاوى بعض العلماء المتأخرين.
