يعتبر إعداد مستخلصات الرسائل العلمية من الأنشطة الأساسية التي تساهم في توفير المعلومات للدراسين والمهتمين بالأبحاث العلمية حيث تسهل للباحث الإلمام بالمستجدات والإنجازات الحديثة في شتى العلوم والمعارف. ونظرًا لأن معظم الرسائل العلمية الجامعية تحتاج إلى آلية يمكن من خلالها التعرف على طبيعتها فإن فكرة إعداد كتاب مطبوع يحتوى على مستخلصات لتلك الرسائل يعتبر مطلبًا أساسيًا وعملًا مفيدًا يخدم جميع المشتغلين في مجال البحث العلمي ويساهم في تجاوز العقبات التي تحول دون معرفة الباحثين باختلاف تخصصاتهم، وذلك للاستفادة منها والتعرف على أبرز نتائجها.
ولا شك أن إمكانية تحقيق هذا الأمر يحتاج إلى بعض الجهود نظرًا إلى كثرة الدراسات العلمية في مجالات مختلفة، وتعدد اللغات التي بها كتابة تلك الأبحاث، وتباعد المسافات بين الباحثين حيث أن كل ذلك يشكل عائقًا أمام التعرف على الدراسات السابقة من بل الباحثين ما لم تتوفر الآلية التي من خلالها يمكن التوصل إلى تلك الدراسات والأبحاث، على هذا يشمل ذلك الكتاب على مستخلصات الرسائل العلمية لمرحلة الماجستير، التي تم إجازاتها منذ البدء في برنامج الماجستير بكلية الاقتصاد والإدارة منذ عام 1403هـ/ 1983م وحتى نهاية الفصل الأول من عام 1417هـ- 1997م، وقد تضمن هذا المستخلص العديد من الكشافات التي تساعد القارئ في الرجوع إلى الدراسات التي تقع في مجال تخصصه بيسر وسهولة، بالإضافة إلى قائمة بالأبحاث المسجلة بالكلية، التي هي في طور الإعداد.
