يأتي هذا الكتاب المرجعي دراسات في علم المكتبات والمعلومات كإضافة لجهود المخلصين في تخصص المكتبات والمعلومات على مستوى الوطن العربي خاصة في أقسام المكتبات والمعلومات وأقسام دراسات المعلومات، وهي جهود علمية قام بها الباحث خلال رحلته العلمية مع التخصص ورئاسته لقسم المكتبات والمعلومات بكلية الآداب والعلوم ترهونة جامعة الزيتونة منذ العام 2006- 2014م، ومشاركته في المؤتمرات والندوات التي أقيمت داخل ليبيا وخارجها مثل ندوات ومؤتمرات الإتحاد العربي للمكتبات والمعلومات (اعلم) التي تقام كل سنة على مستوى الوطن العربي تحقيقاً للترابط والتعاون المكتبي والمعلوماتي والتناغم بين الباحثين والمتخصصين لخدمة تخصص علوم المكتبات والمعلومات، وندوات ومؤتمرات الجمعية الليبية للمكتبات والمعلومات والأرشيف والأكاديمية الليبية للدراسات العليا، ومن بين الأبحاث والدراسات التي وردت في الكتاب الذي يعتبر من المراجع الهامة لأصحاب التخصص والباحثين في فلك علوم المكتبات والمعلومات مثل خدمات المعلومات المتطورة والوسائط المتعددة وكيفية الإنتقال إلى الشكل الإلكتروني وتوظيف المكتبة الإلكترونية في التعليم العالي وحتمية تحديث علوم المكتبات والمعلومات في ظل الجودة الشاملة التي أصبحت ضرورة من ضرورات التخصص وتطبيقها في المكتبات ومراكز المعلومات وعرج الكتاب على التعرف على تقنية المعلومات في ليبيا من حيث تطور المعلمات، ودور تقنية المعلومات والإتصالات في تطوير المجتمع العربي الليبي إضافة إلى المكتبات الرقمية وتحديات عصر المعلومات حيث أصبح دور المكتبات الرقمية يتجاوز الدور الأساسي والمهام التقليدية للمكتبة الورقية، ويفتح أمام المستفيدين أفاقاً جديدة وذلك بالإستفادة من تقنيات المعلومات والإتصالات والحصول على خدمات معلومات جديدة ومتطورة.
