دخل صلاح نصر التاريخ المصري وأصبح من أبرز رجالات أخطر فترة مرت بها مصر بعد الثورة، ولم يكن صلاح نصر بالشخصية الضعيفة أو القليلة الشأن، وإنما كان شخصاً قوياً ذا نفوذ. وتربع على أخطر الأجهزة لفترة طويلة وهي أجهزة المخابرات المصرية، وكان طرفاً في تطورات بالغة الخطورة حدثت بعد الهزيمة، ولذا فإنه يعرف الكثير من الأسرار، لأنه رأى الكثير، وشهادته ضرورية لتاريخ مصر الوطني، وآراؤه مطلوب معرفتها أيضاً من أجل هذا التاريخ. وقد تعرض صلاح نصر لحملات عاتية، وألصقت به تهم عديدة ورهيبة، والمواطن في حاجة وشغف لسماع رد صلاح نصر على كل ما قيل عنه من خلال عرضه لوجهة نظره ولآرائه، وهذا الكتاب هو محاولة لتقديم إجابات صلاح نصر عن التساؤلات العديدة التي ثارت من حوله، كما أنه محاولة لكشف كثير من الأسرار السياسية ومعرفة آراء صلاح نصر في كثير من القضايا. والقارئ ليس ملزماً بتصديق كل ما يقوله صلاح نصر، كما أنه يجب أن لا يبادر لتكذيبه وإثارة الشكوك حوله ورفض أقواله. وإنما عليه التأني والمقارنة بين ما يقوله هو، وبين ما يقوله غيره.
ولم تتضمن الطبعة الأولى من الكتاب كل ما قاله صلاح نصر لي فهناك أشياء خارج النشر لأكثر من سبب. ولست على استعداد للتجارة بها. قالها قبل صدور الحكم ضده في قضية مصطفى أمين. وبعد خروجه بعفو صحي من الرئيس الراحل أنور السادات. بعد أن تأكد أن ما يقوله لي سيظل في بئر عميق لا قرار له... لكن بعض ما قاله بعد صدور الكتاب بصلح لإضافته في الطبعة الثانية ولا يعتبر إخلالاً من جانبي بالأمانة لأنها لن تسئ إلى أحد. كما أن بعضاً منها-ربما يكون قد نشر أو تمت الإشارة إليه في صحف أو مجلات أو كتب. لم تتح لي الظروف الإطلاع عليها.
بالإضافة إلى ذلك، فسأنشر شهادة أدلى بها إلى المرحوم الفريق محمد أحمد صادق وزير الدفاع الأسبق في واقعة متصلة بصلاح نصر.
وهذه الإضافات أنشرها دون تعليق من جانبي. ويشهد الله أنني لم أضف إليها أي حرف. وإن كنت حذفت منها أشياء احتراماً لمن توفاهم الله ولن يستطيعوا الرد أو أحياء ولن يقرأوا الكتاب. ولكن سيكون هناك من قرأوه. كما أن هناك قضايا شخصية لا يجوز الزج بها في الخلافات السياسية أو للترويج للكتاب.
