لقد كانت معركة اليرموك في شهر جمادى الأولى سنة ثلاث عشرة البداية الحقيقية لفتح الشام. وفي الجيش ثلاثة من العشرة المبشرين بالجنة، ومُعاذ بن جبل أحد الأربعة الذين يُؤخذ القرآن الكريم منهم، وفي الجيش ألف صحابيّ، منهم مئة من أهل بدر. وقائد الجيش سيف الله خالد بن الوليد. ما احتاج الروم سوى سحابة نهارٍ واحد كي ينهزموا وهم الأكثر عدداً وعدّة.
لقد وظّف المسلمون كل ما أكرمهم الله تعالى به من إيمانٍ، وتقوى، وشجاعة، وحرصٍ على الشهادة، وكل مواهبهم، نثراً، وشعراً، ورجزاً، وخطابة، وفداءً.
وقد وظّف هذا العمل: معركة اليرموك، مسرحية شعرية، كل هذه الخصائص والمواهب.
