يهدف علم النفس الصناعي إلى دراسة المشكلات الصناعية دراسة علمية بواسطة مناهج بحث علم النفس ومفاهيمه وبمبادئه بهدف تحقيق زيادة في الكفاية الإنتاجية. أما علم النفس التنظيمي فهو ليس سوى توسيع لدائرة اختصاص علم النفس الصناعي ومجالات اهتمامه. وكما هو معروف فإن علم النفس الصناعي والتنظيمي يسعى إلى زيادة الكفاية الصناعية، وزيادة توافق العامل في عمل، وإقامة نوع من الاستقرار الصناعي بإزالة مصادر الشكوى والمنازعات بين العمال وأصحاب العمل.
وفي الفصول الثمانية التي يحتويها هذا الكتاب يقدم الدكتور فرج عبد القادر طه حصيلة أبحاثه وخبراته التي امتدت عبر سنوات طويلة ليمكن القارئ والباحث والمسؤول من وضع خطط للعمل تكفل زيادة الإنتاج وحل المشاكل القائمة في العمل. ويتناول المؤلف في الفصل الأول التعريف بعلم النفس الصناعي والتنظيمي ومجالاته. أما الفصل الثاني فهو بحث في سيكولوجية التوافق المهني وسيكولوجية التوافق العام.
في حين يعرض الفصل الثالث لتحليل العمل الذي هو من صلب اهتمامات علم النفس الصناعي والتنظيمي كما يعتبر الأساس الذي يسبق ويوجه ويبين عليه الكثير من جهود علم النفس الصناعي والتنظيمي. وينتقل بعد ذلك إلى تحليل الفرد في الفصل الرابع فمعرفة الخصائص الأساسية التي يتطلبها العمل في الفرد ضرورية لتحقيق التوافق المهني وفي الفصل الخامس يبحث المؤلف في ظروف العمل الطبيعية إذ أن توافر ظروف عمل طبيعية مناسبة تساعد العالم على أداء عمله وتيسره له وتجذبه إليه وترضيه.
ولا يستثني المؤلف الإدارة من البحث والدرس فيعرض في الفصل السادس لهذا الموضوع متناولاً الحديث عن الإدارة كمفهوم عام أي يعني الإدارة في مستوياتها المختلفة داخل مؤسسة العمل وكتنظيم وتوجيه ومتابعة مجموعة من الأفراد لتحقيق أهداف معينة. ويعرج في الفصل السابع على سيكولوجية الأمن الصناعي والحوادث التي تعتبر مشكلة خطيرة تواجه المسؤولتي في كل مجتمع وتتزايد خطورتها بتقديم المجتمع وأخيراً يعرض في الفصل الثامن والأخير لطرق تقييم الأعمال أو الوظائف ويقصد بتقييم الوظائف تحديد قيمة مالية لكل وظيفة داخل مؤسسة العمل على أساس من الموضوعية والعدالة.
