إن عنوان هذا العمل هو هيجل والدولة. لكن هذا العنوان لا يدل تماماً على حدود هذا العمل: في الواقع أنه يتناول نقد النقد التقليدي الذي يعتبر هيجل المدافع عن الدولة البروسية ونبي ما نسميه غالباً الحكومية. فهل هذا النقد مشروع؟ وإذا لم نتطرق إلى مجمل فكر الفيلسوف، هل يكفي أن نشير إلى أن الدولة تشغل محور فكره السياسي؟ وإذا افترضنا أن هذا النقد مقبول، فهل ينطبق على هيجل؟
قد يخيب أمل القارئ إذا ما سعى في هذه الصفحات إلى تحليل كامل فلسفة الدولة عند هيجل.قد لا ينجح محاولة إلا إذا انطلقنا من الأنطولوجيا الهيجلية، أساس فهم كل فروع النظام الفلسفي الهيجلي. لقد امتنعنا عن الخوض في هذا النقاش وفي هذا التأويل الملازمين للسياسة الهيجلية (كلمة سياسة مأخوذة هنا بمعناها الأرسطي). مع ذلك قد يسجل القارئ بعض الملاحظات، وقد يوافقنا، نأمل ذلك، كوننا حاولنا أن نأخذ بعين الاعتبار وحدة فكر هذا الفيلسوف.
لقد صرفنا النظر عن كل نقد ورد في الأدبيات القائمة. لكننا في بعض الحالات، نلجأ إليه في الملاحظات والحواشي، إنما لم يكن هذا اللجوء بنية دحض أو تصحيح تفاصيل بعض الآراء، إذ لا يعنينا هنا التفاصيل. وسوف يرى الأخصائي بيسر نقاط الاتفاق والخلاف وسوف يلاحظ، إلا إذا لم نكن واهمين، أننا لم نبتعد عن الآراء الشائعة إلا لإثبات نصوص.
وللمهتم بهذه النصوص، نقول إننا لم نستخدم سوى تلك التي ترقى إلى ما بعد سقوط نابليون، فلم نتناول إذاً، إلا في مناسبات نادرة، لا الكتابات التي كتبها هيجل في شبابه ولا ما ورد في ظواهرية الروح، بل اعتمدنا في تفسيرنا هيجل على فلسفة الحق واستطراداً على اونسيكلوبيديا العلوم الفلسفية.
