مؤلف هذه الرسالة هو محمد بن محمد بن محمد بن عبد الرزاق الحسيني الشهير بالمرتضى الزبيدي صاحب تاج العروس، وهو علم مشهور ولد سنة 1145هـ وتوفي سنة 1206هـ، والرسالة هي تجميع مختصر من المراجع المعروفة عن بعض العباسيين مع تركيز على الخلفاء ابتداءً من السفاح وانتهاءً بالمتوكل على الله بان المستمسك بالله آخر خلفاء العباسيين في مصر، وقد وضعها تلبية لطلب شخصية عباسية معاصرة له، هو عثمان بن أبي السعود ابن عبد الوهاب العباسي، وبمقارنة الأسماء التي أوردها بما هو متوافر في مصادر منشورة نجد أنها لا تضم إلا القليل عن أنساب العباسيين، ومع ذلك فهي مفيدة لقلة ما هو معروف من مؤلفات عن أنسابهم، وبالتالي فهي لا تعد عملاً شاملاً، وقد بدأها بذكر العباس بن عبد المطلب ثم أبنائه وسلالاتهم باختصار شديد وركز على سلالة محمد بن علي بن عبد الله العباس.
