يأتي هذا الكتاب في عدة فصول حيث يتضمن موضوعات متعددة حول علم الإجتماع، فنجد الفصل الأول الذي يتناول ماهية علم الإجتماع من ناحية التعريف به ونشأته وتطوره وتاريخه وعلاقته بالعلوم الإجتماعية الأخرى، بينما نجد الفصل الثاني يتكلم عن الرواد الأوائل في هذا العلم ونجد منهم على سبيل المثال المفكر العربي إبن خلدون و كارل ماركس، ونذهب الى الفصل الثالث الذي نجده تطرق إلى موضوع الجماعات الإجتماعية من حيث مفهومها والعلاقة فيما بينها، ثم التفاعل الإجتماعي والعلاقات الإجتماعية وأنواعها، أما الفصل الرابع فناقش قضية الثقافة والتنشئة الإجتماعية ضمن الثقافة والمجتمع وخصائص هذه الأخيرة ووظائفها ومكوناتها، والتغير الثقافي والإجتماعي والعوامل المؤثرة في التنشئة الإجتماعية، والفصل الخامس الذي يتناول الأدوار الإجتماعية والتدرج الإجتماعي والطبقات، ثم الفصل السادس الذي يتمحور حول ماهية التغير الإجتماعي، بالإضافة إلى الفصل السابع الذي يتضمن المشكلات الإجتماعية من حيث تعريفها، يليه الفصل الثامن الذي يحمل في طياته مفهوم الضبط الإجتماعي ومنظوراته والإتجاهات العامة لدراسته ودور النظم الإجتماعية في الضبط الإجتماعي ثم نظرياته، وختاما بالفصل التاسع الذي يشمل مناهج البحث الإجتماعي وخطواته وطرق الحصول على البيانات والأسلوب العلمي للملاحظة.
