الشجاعة عماد الفضائل، فمن فقدها لم تكمل فيه فضيلة يعبر عنها بالصبر وقوة النفس. ويقول بعض الحكماء أن أصل الخير كله في ثبات القلب والشجاعة عند اللقاء على ثلاثة أوجه: الوجه الأول: إذا التقى الجمعان، وتزاحف العسكران، وتكالحت الإحداق بالإحداق، برز من الصف الى وسط المعترك يحمل ويكر وينادي: من مبارز. والوجه الثاني: إذا نشب القوم واختلطوا، ولم يعرف أحد منهم من أين يأتيه الموت، يكون رابط الجأش، ساكن القلب، حاضر اللب،، لم يخالطه الدّهش،ولا تأخذه الحيرة، فيتقلب المالك لأموره القائم على نفسه. والوجه الثالث: إذا انهزم أصحابه، يلزم السّاحة، ويضرب في وجوه القوم، ويحول بينهم وبين عدوِّهم، ويقوي قلوب أصحابه، ويرجي الضعيف ويمدهم بالكلام الجميل، ويشجع نفوسهم، فمن وقع أقامه، ومن وقف حمله، ومن كبا به فرسه حماه حتى ييأس العدو منه، وهذا أحمدهم شجاعة. وعن هذا قالوا: إن المقاتل من وراء الفارين كالمستغفر من وراء الغافلين. وهذا الكتاب: الجرأة والشجاعة عند العرب من سلسلة: من روائع الأدب العربي، جُمعت بين طياته الأحاديث النبوية، والأشعار، والحكم، والأقوال، والأمثال، والقصص، والصبر، وكل ما ترغب بمعرفته عن العرب والشجاعة.
