هذا البحث مقدم إلى قسم العقيدة في كلية الدعوة وأصول الدين في الجامعة الإسلامية في المدينة المنورة لنيل درجة العالمية العالية (الدكتوراة) وقد رغبت أن أكتب في هذا الموضوع للأسباب الآتية: كتبه المؤلف أن الأمام الشافعي أحد الأئمة الأربعة المفتدى بهم في الإسلام والمعتمد على أقوالهم وفقههم بين الأنام فجمعُ معتقده وبيانُ منهجه مهمٌ في معرفة عقيدة السلف ومنهجهم في إثباتها.
وقد احتوى هذا البحث على مقدمة وخمسة أبواب وخاتمة، أما الباب الأول: تتضمن حياة الإمام الشخصية والعلمية وفيه فصلان، الفصل الأول: ترجمة موجزة للإمام الشافعي، الفصل الثاني: أصول الشافعي في إثبات العقيدة.
أما الباب الثاني: فتناول عقيدته في الإيمان ومنهجه في إثباته وفيه أربعة فصول: الفصل الأول: حقيقة الإيمان ودخول الأعمال في مسماه، الفصل الثاني: زيادة الإيمان ونقصانه، الفصل الثالث: الإستثناء فيه والفرق بينه وبين الإسلام، الفصل الرابع: حكم مرتكب الكبيرة.
واختص الباب الثالث بعقيدته في التوحيد ومنهجه في إثباته وفيه ثلاثة فصول: الفصل الأول: توحيد الالوهية، الفصل الثاني: توحيد الربوبية، الفصل الثالث: توحيد الأسماء والصفات، وتحدث الباب الرابع: عن بقية المعتقد ومنهجه في إثباته، وفيه أربعة فصول: الفصل الأول: لإيمان بالأنبياء، الفصل الثاني: الإيمان باليوم الآخر وما يلحق به، الفصل الثالث: الإيمان بالقضاء والقدر، الباب الخامس: تبرئة الإمام مما نسب إليه من مخالفة منهج السلف وموقفه من الفرق وفيه فصلان، الفصل الأول: رسالة الفقه الأكبر المنسوبة للإمام الشافعي، الفصل الثاني: موقفه من الفرق.
