يعتبر هذا المقرر من المقررات الأساسية والإجبارية لطلبة برنامج التربية تخصص الرياضيات وخصص له ثلاث ساعات معتمدة.
يهدف هذا المقرر تعريف الطالب بأساسيات الرياضيات ودورها في البناء الرياضي وبناء إستراتيجيات البرهان الرياضي بمظاهره المختلفة.
ينتظر من الطالب بعد دراسة المقرر وتنفيذ الأنشطة والتدريبات الواردة فيه تحقيق الأهداف التالية: 1-يتعرف مبادئ المنطق الرياضي وإستخداماته، 2-يتعرف لغة الرياضيات من خلال المجموعات والإقترانات والعلاقات، 3-ينمي قدرته على البرهان الرياضي.
يحتوي المقرر خمس وحدات دراسية هي: 1-المنطق، 2-المجموعات، 3-طريق البرهان، 4-العلاقات، 5-الإقترانات، 3-الإقترانات.
لقد كتبت المادة العلمية بطريقة التعلم الذاتي واحتوى على العديد من الأمثلة التوضيحية والتدريبات وأسئلة التقويم الذاتي، لهذا ينصح القارئ بحل كافة التدريبات وأسئلة التقويم الذاتي أولاً بأول ومقارنة إجاباته بالإجابات المثبتة في نهاية الكتاب.
