يأتي هذا الكتاب، بالنسبة للتجربة التي أشتغل عليها، لتعمق البحث في مفهوم "المتخيل" من جهة، و"المتخيل الروائي" من جهة أخرى، في تعالقهما مع العديد من أشكال التخييل المجاورة لهما، والتي يتضمنها المتخيل الروائي ويشيد عليها عوالمه التخيلية كخلفيات أساسية ويصهرها من حيث كونها مادة ومحتوى ضمن بوثقته ويمتصها، لتكون فضاء مشتركا بين العمل والمتلقين، من قبيل: "المتخيل التاريخي" و"المتخيل العقائدي والديني" و"المتخيل الأدبي" و"المتخيل الذاتي"، كما سيتم تحديد ذلك لاحقا، وللبحث أيضا، في علاقة "الخطاب الروائي" ب"الواقع" من جهة، وعلاقتهما بمفهومي "التأويل" و"القراءة"، بمعنى، أن الرواية من منظور "التأويلية" وبحسب مفهومها (ومن منظور ميرلوبونتي)، تبحث عن حقيقة الواقع الجوهرية، وتتحدث عنه كوحدة كلية منسجمة، وبالتالي فالخطاب الروائي، ههنا، قادر على إدراك الواقع في كليته إدراكا حسيا (Perception)، والرواية بذلك قادرة على الوعي الشامل للواقع، وكأن الرواية قادرة على احتواء الواقع، وهو كذلك ما يتداوله العديد من الدارسين والنقاد والباحثين في قولهم بأن الرواية هي الحياة على غرار "الأدب هو الحياة"، بينما "تحليل الواقع" ومن منظور الرواية يؤكد قصور الرواية كمتخيل أدبي وخطاب لغوي على احتواء الواقع في شموليته، لذلك تأتي نظرية "القراءة" في تواضع علمي وعملي، لتؤكد على أن الواقع ليس وحدة منسجمة، بل الواقع "أجزاء" منفصلة ومستقلة في ذاتها، ومن بين القراءات الممكنة، نجد "القراءة التفكيكية"، والتي تبحث في العناصر المكونة للوحدة الكلية، وهذا ما يعكس منظور "التأويلية" رأسا على عقب، فالواقع في الرواية ليس وحدة كلية ولا صورة شاملة ومحيطة، بل لا يتجاوز حدود "اقتراح" قراءة لجزء من الواقع تحدده نظرة السارد وزاوية وقوف المتكلم من الواقع، دون إهمال الذات المتكلمة، في "مقصديتها"، من جهة، ومن "مقصدية الرواية" كمتخيل ونوع من بين أنواع أخرى سردية.
