لم يكن لهذه السيرة الذاتية أن تظهر إلى النور لولا تجربتي مع مرض السرطان، ومعاناتي مع العلاج خلال رحلة استمرت أكثر من عشرة أعوام، منذ نهاية عام 2003 حتى عام 2013. وقد شاءت رحمة الله وعنايته أن أُشفى من مرضي، وأن أكمل مسيرتي في الحياة مسلحاً بهذه التجربة التي تعيد خلق الإنسان من جديد. وربما تكون هذه التجربة هي التي أقنعتني بأن لدي ما يمكن أن أقدمه إلى قرائي خارج المجال الأكاديمي والبحثي الذي كرست له حياتي وجهودي.
لقد فتح لي تدوين تجربتي مع مرض السرطان باباً لتأمل حياتي كاملة، واستعادة مراحلها وتحولاتها في ضوء خبرة جديدة تختلف عن كل ما واجهته من قبل. وكان هدفي الأول من هذه السيرة هو أن أقول بشكل عملي لكل مرضى السرطان ولذويهم وللمجتمع إن مريضاً سابقاً بالسرطان هو من يكتب، ومن يؤلف، ومن يتكلم، ومن ينجز، ويتعامل كل يوم مع واجبات جديدة ومهام معقدة، ويدير مؤسسة كبيرة بكل ما يعنيه ذلك من ضغوط وإرهاق بدني وذهني.
لا تستسلم. هذه الفكرة خلاصة تجربتي. وأنا أعلم أن الله -عز وجل- قد خلق الناس بأنصبة غير متساوية من الاحتمال والعزيمة والإرادة، وربما خصني بقدر منها يجعلني قادراً على رفض الاستسلام، لكنني أوقن كذلك أن كل إنسان يحمل في داخلة قدراً منها قل أو كثر، وأن تنمية الاحتمال والعزيمة أمر ممكن ومطلوب، وأن تدريب النفس عليها يمكن أن يكون المعين الأول للإنسان على تحقيق أهدافه ومقاومة ما يعترض طريقه، حتى لو كان مرضاً مثل السرطان.
