الكهرباء هى شكل من أشكال الطاقة تنشأ عن إنعدام التوازن بين نوعين من جسيمات المادة (الألكترونات والبروتونات) والإلكترونيات جزء من مجال أوسع فى مجال الكهرباء، ويشتمل الكهرباء على عنصرين مهمين هما التيار الكهربائى والفولتية الكهربائية، والتيار الكهربائى هو إنسياب الشحنات الكهربائية، بينما تمثل الفولتية الكهربائية نوعآ من القوة الذى يسبب حركة الشحنات فى إتجاه واحد، ومن الإستخدامات المعتادة للكهرباء تزويد المنازل والمؤسسات بالطاقة المستخدمة فى توفير الضوء والحرارة، وفى قيادة المحركات، وقد لوحظت الكهرباء فى الطبيعة بوصفها برقاء وبوصفها كهرباء سكونية أو أستاتية، أما إستخدام الكهرباء على نطاق واسع فلم يتم إلا فى أواخر القرن التاسع عشر.
