لعلنا لا نجافي الصواب إن زعمنا أنّ اللسانيات، قد تقلّبت منهجياً ونظرياً تقلبات كثيرة خلال القرن المنصرم، في الأفق الغربيّ، بيد أن التقبّل العربيّ، قد اكتفى في الغالب الأعمّ، بالتلقّي المعرفي؛ أي إنّه نظر إلى معطيات هذا العلم بوصفها معارف عصرية، ولم يتجاوز ذلك إلى إعتبارها رؤيةً تقطع مع النحو بالمعنى القديم، دون أن يكون هدفها إلغاء ذلك النحو، بل هي تسعى إلى توسيعه بشكل يجعله يتخلّص من ربقة القواعدية المهيمنة على صيغه المكرَّسة.
وزاد الطينَ بلّةً، في السياق العربيّ، أنّ حملَ لواءَ نقدِ النحوِ العربيّ دعاةٌ إيديولوجيون لا علماءُ فنيّون مختصّون، فتعمّقت النفرة الواقعة أصلاً بين العرب وبين تحديث منوال النحو العربيّ، مخافة أن يُعدّ ذلك طعنا في الدين أو رغبة متستّرة في محاربة الفصحى، تحت ستار التطوير والعصرنة.
يعدّ هذا الكتاب، مدخلاً لقراءة اللسانيات إنطلاقاً من مباحث مفرّقة ولكنها تكوّن رصيداً أوّلياً يمكن للمجتهد أن ينطلق منه لتوسيع الإهتمام بظاهرة من ظواهر اللغة، في أبعادها الإستعمالية أو المعيارية.
