الأصل في الحياة الزوجية أن يشعر كل طرف بأن الطرف الآخر هو حياته ومصدر سعادته ومكمن راحته، لقوله تعالى: "ومن آياته أن خلق لكم من أنفسكم أزواجاً لتسكنوا إليها وجعل بينكم مودة ورحمة إن في ذلك لآيات لقوم يتفكرون"، فكل منكما سكن للآخر، بل الأمر أعظم من ذلك، حيث يقول الله تعالى: "هن لباس لكم وأنتم لباس لهن".
ويقول الأستاذ محمد قطب: "ففي هذه الكلمات القليلة تصوير بارع لعلاقة الجسد وعلاقة الروح في آن واحد، فاللباس أهم شيء ببدن الإنسان، وهو الستر الذي يستتر به، وهو في الوقت ذاته مفصل على قده لا ينقص ولا يزيد، والرجل والمرأة ألصق شيء بعضهما لبعض، يلتقيان فإذا هما جسد واحد وروح واحدة، وفي لحظة يذوب كل منهما في الآخر فلا تعرف لهما حدود، وهما أبداً يهفوان إلى هذا الاتصال الوثيق الذي يشبه اتحاد اللباس بلابسه. ثم هما ستر كل واحد للآخر، فهما من الناحية الجسدية ستر وصيانة، وهما على الدوام ستر روحي ونفسي. فليس أحد أستر لأحد من الزوجين المتآلفين يحرص كل منهما على عرض الآخر وماله ونفسه وأسراره أن ينكشف منها شيء فتنتبه الأفواه والعيون. وهما كذلك وقاية تغني كل منهما عن الفاحشة وأعمال السوء كما يقي الثوب لابسه من أذى الهاجرة والزمهرير. وإذا كانت العلاقة بين الرجل والمرأة وثيقة إلى هذا الحد، فقد وجب أن يلتقيا ليكون كل منهما لباساً لصاحبه يزينه ويكمله ويلتصق به للوقاية والستر. وهذه هي المودة والرحمة".
واعلم أن سعادة البيت تنبع من داخله، ولذلك فهى تنبعث من طاقة وزاد، وخير ما يدفع الإنسان إلى البهجة هي (الطاقة الإيمانية)، وخير ما يجعله يستمر هو (الزاد الخلقى)، فالأولى تملأ القلوب، والثانية تملأ النفس، والأصل أن لكل محتوى كتاب هدفاً يتحقق فى كل من تناول المحتوى فهماً وعملا، وهدف هذا الكتيب هو إحياء ملكة المودة والرحمة التى تنشئها العلاقة الزوجية فى نفس الزوج وسلوكه.
