يواجه المتعلمون، ورجال الأعمال، والموظفون، وطلاب المدارس الثانوية والجامعات في العالم العربي صعوبات جمّة في فهم التركيبات اللغويّة ذات الصيغ المحددة (Idioms) التي يستخدمها الأمريكيون والكنديون في التخاطب في ما بينهم وفي إدارة شؤون حياتهم اليومية، أو في تعاملهم مع الإنسان العربي إذا كانوا يعملون في هذا الجزء من العالم. ويمكن القول بأن الكثير من العرب يدرسون أو يقيمون في الولايات المتحدة وكندا أيضاً يعانون من المشكلة عينها.
بالإضافة إلى ذلك فإن أي فرد في عالمنا العربي يتوجه إلى محطات إذاعية أو أجنبية تبث بلغة أجنبية، لذا أصبح من الضروري الإلمام باللغة الأجنبية والإنكليزية منها خاصة، لأنها الأكثر شيوعاً في العالم، بل إن هذا بات حاجة ملحة. وبناءً على هذه الحقائق، يأتي هذا القاموس الذي يشمل تركيبات لغوية إنكليزية الأمريكية والكنديّة قد تستخدم في أي وقت أو مكان، وهي تساهم في مساعدة الإنسان العربي على معرفة ما يقوله الآخرون وفي تعامله المباشر معهم.
ويمكن القول بأن هذا القاموس هو مختلف عن غيره من القواميس والمعاجم الإنكليزية أو العربية الإنكليزية العادية، فبينما تتعامل تلك القواميس أو المعاجم مع المفردات ومعانيها فإن هذا القاموس يتعامل كليّاً مع التركيبات اللغوية. إضافة إلى ذلك فإن هذا القاموس يحتوي على تصنيف لغوي مختصر ينبع من تركيب لغوي مباشرة ويبين إذا كان هذا التركيب شبه جملة إسمية، أو فعلية، أو وصفيّة إلخ...
وقد ورد هذا التصنيف بشكل مميز حيث وضع بين قوسين وذلك ليسهل التعرف عليه وفهمه. وكذلك تمّ تقديم مثال للقارئ في اللغة الإنكليزية لتوضيح كل معنى من معاني كل تركيب لغوي وطريقة إستخدامه.
