نقرأ في هذا الكتاب (مذكرات آنا غريغورنينا) زوجة الكاتب والروائي الشهير فيودور دستويفسكي (ولد 11 نوفمبر 1821 – وتوفي 1 فبراير 1881م). في المقدمة التي تفتتح بها الكتاب تقول آنا: لم أفكر يوماً في كتابة المذكرات، فأنا أفتقر إلى الموهبة الأدبية. وكنت طوال عمري مشغولة بإصدار مؤلفات الراحل زوجي، فلا وقت عندي لأمور أخرى. إلا أن صحتي تدهورت في عام 1910 فعهدت إلى آخرين بمتابعة طبع مؤلفاته، وانزويت بديعاً عن العاصمة بطرسبورغ أعيش في وحدة مطبقة. وكان لا بد أن أملأ فراغ أوقاتي، ... أعدت قراءة يوميات زوجي ويومياتي، فوجدت فيها تفاصيلاً هامة تستحق أن يطلع عليها الناس. ثم أمضيت خمس سنوات 1911-1916م في إعداد هذه المذكرات".
وعليه، تقدم آنا غريغورنينا في مذكراتها فكرة وافية عن دستويفسكي الإنسان، وكيف أنهما عاشا حياة صعبة مليئة بالأحداث الأليمة (خصوم وحساد ودائنين) وغيرها من أمراض (الصرع) ما عدا تعرّضه لعقوبة الإعدام التي أفلت منها، ونضاله السياسي في سبيل حرية بلاده، ورغم ذلك عاش الزوجان حياة مليئة بالمشاعر النبيلة والعميقة. كما تتحدث آنا هنا – عن مشاريع دستويفسكي الروائية وكواليس كتابتها وظروفها، و كذا أسفاره خارج روسيا، وتعرض أيضاً لعلاقته بأدباء عصره ونقاده ومنهم تورغييف وتولستوي وبيلينسكي وبوشكين، وصولاً إلى اللحظات الأخيرة من حياته .. "في شباط 1881 شيّع جثمان فيودور دستويفسكي إلى مثواه الأخير في موكب عفوي مهيب لم تشهد بطرسبورغ مثله إلا في مقتل الأمبراطور الكسندر الثاني بعد شهر من ذلك التاريخ".
