منذ مدّة طويلة والقارئ العربي، المهتم بالشأن التاريخي والديني وتطوّر الفكر، يبحث عن كتاب يتعرّف من خلاله على الكنائس الإنجيليّة من حيث تنوّعها وتاريخها ونشوئها وتعاليمها.
ولم يهتدِ بعد إلى مرجع يجد فيه ضالته، وما زاد الطلب إلحاحاً هو أنّ وسائل الإعلام بجميع أنواعها المكتوبة والمسموعة والمرئيّة درجت على إستعمال عبارات مثل "البروتستانتيّة المحافظة" و"البروتستانتيّة المتحرّرة" و"البروتستانتيّة الأصوليّة".
صحيح أنّ بعض الكنائس الإنجيليّة نشرت كتيبات تعرف عنها، وغالباً لغرض تبشيري، لكن لا يوجد كتاب شامل، يتكلّم عن الحركة الإنجيليّة ككلّ في العالم وخصوصاً في الشرق الذي يهمنا نحن أبناء الضاد.
إنّ كتاب "مدخل إلى تاريخ الكنائس الإنجيليّة ولاهوتها" هو أول كتاب شامل، باللغة العربيّة، يلبّي الحاجة ويفي بالغرض، إنّه كتاب موجّه إلى القارئ البروتستانتي وغير البروتستانتي، طالب كلّيات اللاّهوت أو العلوم الدينيّة، والإختصاصي بالتاريخ أو بعلم الإجتماع أو في العلوم السياسيّة.
وما يزيد الموضوع أهميّة هو أن للحركة الإنجيليّة تأثيراً كبيراً في الفكر الدينيّ والإجتماعيّ في الشر الأوسط، كما وتتشارك مع الحركة المرسلية الكاثوليكيّة، إضافةً إلى عوامل أخرى، في بزوغ نور النهضة الفكريّة في البلاد العربيّة والإسلاميّة خلال القرنين التاسع عشر والعشرين.
إنّه كتاب لكلّ مَن يريد أن يدرس هذه المواضيع أو يتثقّف فيها بطريقة موضوعيّة بحتة.
