لما لأهمية (علم الوقف والابتداء) رأى المؤلف أن يعمد إلى كتاب من أمهات هذا العلم لاعتباره من المؤلفات الأول، بل هو الأول في (وقف التمام)، ولجلالة مؤلفه صاحب العناية الكبرى برواية القراءات، والذي أكمل بهذا الكتاب الجمع بين الرواية والدراية، ولا بد منهما للمقري.. ومع أهمية المؤلف ومكانة المؤلف يعتبر (وقف التمام) للإمام نافع في عداد التراث المفقود.. ولقد رأى الدكتور حسين بن محمد العواجي (الأستاذ المشارك بقسم القراءات في الجامعة الاسلامية) أن يلم شتات الكتاب وأن يجمع نصوصه من هنا وهناك فيما كان له علاقة بالوقف، محاولة منه للوصول إلى نص الكتاب المفقود أو قريب منه، فالذي لايُدرَك كُلّه لا يُترك جُلّه، وما هذا إلا ليقف طالب العلم على حقيقة هذا الكتاب، ويفيد منه في معرفة وتوثيق مذهب الإمام نافع في الوقف.
