يشمل الكتاب مجموعة ثمينة من النظم والتعليمات المعتمدة من قبل الهيئة الألمانية للجيوتقنية DGGT كمبادئ ومعايير جيوتقنية، من أجل: تصميم وحساب وإنشاء مطامر النفايات الصلبة والسهر على حسن تشغيلها ومعالجتها والتخفيف من مخاطرها على التربة والبيئة المائية والحيوية. حيث يتم التأكيد، ومن خلال منظومة متسلسلة منطقياً ومتكاملة من الدراسات والإجراءات، على بناء مطامر آمنة للنفايات، وعلى التكتم اللاحق، والصيانة المستمرة للمطامر المهجورة، أو تلك التي لا تزال على قيد العمل، كي تبقى جميعها صديقة للبيئة وقابلة للتأهيل من جديد.
يغطي الكتاب توصيات الجمعية الألمانية للجيوتقنية GDA من خلال سبعة فصول تعالج:
1-الاستكشاف الجيولوجي والهيدروجيولوجي والجيوفيزيائي للمواقع الملائمة لإنشاء المطامر والمكبّات.
2-مبادئ التصميم الهندسي والتنفيذ لمشاريع إنشاء المطامر وتأهيل المكبّات واستقرارها.
3-اختبارات الصلاحية الجيوتقنية اللازمة لتوصيف المواد المستخدمة في بناء المطامر الجديدة وتأهيل المهجورة.
4-طرائق الإنشاء والنواظم المعتمدة في حساب وتنفيذ إجراءات تكتيم المطامر والمكبّات.
5-مراقبة جودة التنفيذ ومواصفات مواد البناء المستخدمة في إنشاء المطامر.
6-دراسة انتقال المياه والمواد الضارة عبر النمذجة الرقمية، واختبار فاعلية الإجراءات الهيدرولية لمنع تسربها.
7-الطرائق الجيوتقنية الأخرى الخاصة بتخزين النفايات وتأهيلها.
