إن ديوان ابن ماضي هو المجموعة الكاملة للشاعر والذي كتبه طوال سنين حياته، منذ بدأ كتابة الشعر في صباه حتى وافته المنية في عام 1953، يتكون من أربعة مجلدات ويحوي أكثر من ألف وثلاثمائة قصيدة في شتى أغراض الشعر من وجدنيات وتجليات صوفيه ومناسبات تاريخية ودينية، لذلك فالديوان يعتبر تاريخاً لمصر والعلم العربي والأسلامي، وكذلك سوف نلحظ جزالة الكلمة وقوة الجملة الشعرية ومتانة اللفظ وعمق الصورة الشعرية، وهي كلها صفات ومقومات الشعر العربي فس نهاية القرن التاسع عشر وبداية القرن العشرين، وهي الفترة التي سميت ببداية عصر النهضة الادبية في العالم العربي وبداية الاستقلال للدول العربية عامة ومصر خاصة.
