ويمثل الخبر الفن الرئيس الذي تعتمده كل وسائل الإعلام، فضلا عن كونه يأتي من ضمن أولويات الجمهور، فعصرنا الحالي هو عصر التنافس في مجال سرعة الحصول على المعلومات والأخبار وبثها وتقديم التفسرات والخلفيات المرافقة لها. وتطورت صناعة الخبر في الدول المتقدمة من ناحية التقنيات المستخدمة في نقلها ومعالجتها ومن ناحية أساليب الصياغة الفنية وتعددت أيضاً المصادر الإخبارية وخيارات التعامل مع الأخبار من ناحية الإخراج الصحفي.
وبعد أن كانت النظرة إلى صناعة الخبر من المختصين في الإعلام تنحصر في مراحل تكوين الخير (الجمع التحرير النشر)، أصبحت من مدخلين الأول مدخل التوظيف الإخباري والآخر مدخل تطور الأساليب الفنية في صياغة الأخبار، وبالرغم من التطور الذي شهده الخبر في دول العالم المتقدمة، والتجديد في النظرة إلى صناعته، والتطور الديمقراطي الذي شهدته الكثير من الأنظمة السياسية.
ومن هنا، فإن المؤلفان هدفا إلى تقديم رؤية فلسفية جديدة لعدة مواضيع ومفاهيم متعلقة بصناعة الأخبار الصحفية والتفلزيونية وإنتاجها.
