حاول أن ينتقل في كل الأماكن الممكنة حتى يكون فكرة واضحة عن مدينة مارسيليا وضواحيها، في جولاته في المدينة فاجأه الحضور المغاربي القوي... في أحيان عدة كان يظن نفسه في الدار البيضاء أو الجزائر العاصمة أو تونس العاصمة...
المغاربة والجزائريون والتونسيون بكثرة، فكر بكثير من الخبث بأن مارسيليا بالنسبة لهم غنيمة حرب... سحناتهم العربية والبربرية لا تخفى على النظر، كذلك لهجتهم المميزة حتى وهم يتحدثون اللغة الفرنسية...
أثاره كذلك وجود أقليات متنامية لأفارقة جنوب الصحراء الكبرى، تميزهم بشرتهم السوداء وقاماتهم الطويلة ولكنهم المميزة...
فيما بعد عرف أن هناك جنسيات عربية وغير عربية تستوطن المدينة الفرنسية... دوما البحث عن حياة أفضل حفز الناس على الهجرة، فسعوا بكل الوسائل المشروعة وغير المشروعة لتحقيق أهدافهم المتمثلة في الوصول إلى القارة العجوز، هكذا فكر محسن، غير أنه بأسف لاحظ أنهم بحق يعيشون في بؤس واضح، يبدو ذلك من طيور الهم والغم المحلقة فوق رؤوسهم، والتي ترافقهم في جولاتهم، التي لا تنتهي في أزقة المدينة وشوارعها وساحاتها دون فائدة فقد عرف فيما بعد أن غابيتهم تحيا على إيقاع بطالة مزمنة، وأكثرهم ينزلق نحو ممارسة أنشطة غير مشروعة.
