إن أهمية موضوع الكتاب يتمثل في تلك الإشكالية التي يثيرها الحديث عن الماسونية، وقد كانت من الأفكار الغربية طويلة العمر على أرض مصر، وقد أتت غربية خالصة مع الحملة الفرنسية وانتهت غربية ممزوجة برموز وأفكار شرقية. أتت مع الحملة الفرنسية لكي تخدم الأهداف الفرنسية في الشرق، ومحاولة من الماسونية العالمية لنشر أفكارهم في الجانب الشرقي من العالم.
وشكلت فصول البحث استعراض وتحليل للتنظيم الماسوني في مصر، وعرض جذوره التاريخية والمشاكل التي واجهته، ومراحل تكوين الماسونية في مصر، وتوزيعات المحافل فيها. أيضاً تأسيس الشرق الأعظم الماسوني لمصر والسودان، الذي كان بمثابة عماد السيطرة الإنجليزية على المحافل الماسونية وأعضائها. وإيضاح عمليات التمويل وطرق التكريس داخل المحافل وعلاقات المحافل المصرية بالشروق الماسونية الأجنبية. كما تناول البحث النشاط السياسي للماسونية الذي عاصر معظم الأحداث التي مرت بها مصر.
