يتطرق الكتاب في جزئه الأول بالتفصيل إلى نظرية الترجمة ومبادئها، وعملية الترجمة وسيرها، وتحليل النص المترجم، وأنماط النصوص، وطرق الترجمة المختلفة، ووحدات الترجمة، وتحليل الخطاب، وتحليل المكونات، ووظائف اللغة والترجمة، وقواعد الحالات والترجمة، وترجمة المتلازمات اللفظية، والترجمة الفتية، وترجمة أسماء العلم، ونقد الترجمة، واختبارات الترجمة، ترجمة المختصرات الدولية، وترجمة ما لا يترجم، وترجمة المستجدات، وترجمة اللهجات والغموض والتورية والشعر والأدب بشكل عام، ونقاط أخرى كثيرة. أما في جزئه الثاني فيقدم الكتاب أمثلة تطبيقية تتمثل في ترجمة ثلاثة عشر نصاً تم مناقشتها ونقدها وتقويمها بدقة من زوايا ترجمية وروايات مختلفة. أخيراً ألحق بالكتاب ملحقان: الأول مصطلحات ترجمية مهمة اختارها المؤلف، أما الثاني فأهم الأمثلة الإنجليزية التي وردت في الكتاب كله مع ترجماتها إلى العربية.
