والكتاب هو الأول من نوعه في لبنان، إذ لم يسبق أن قدمت دراسة تعالج موضوع تعليم التاريخ في ظل المتغيرات السياسية والثقافية والتكنولوجية، وفي ظل ظهور نظريات عديدة وطرائق مستجدّة في مجال التعليم.
فجاءت فكرة الكتاب لتزويد معلمي مادة التاريخ وإدارات المدارس والمؤسسات التربوية بمادة معرفية هامة من شأنها تطوير أساليب تعاليم التاريخ ورفع مستوى القدرات المهنية لمعلمي المادة، كما من شأنه أن يضع بين أيدي المهتمين بإعداد المناهج مرجعاً يمكن العودة إليه عند الحاجة.
