كان المقدم يراقبها باهتمام كبير وهو يتطلع إلى الكلاب التي أخذت تتكاثر ويتعالى نباحها بينما الشمس تداري إحراجها وتصير قرصا محمرا عالقا في فم الهواء. انهمكت الأرملة الشابة في طقسها البكائي، استغلت الكلاب ذلك وأخذت تقترب من كيس النايلون الأسود المخصص للأزبال، تنبهت الأرملة إلى تلك الحركة الغادرة فندت منها صرخة رعب وقبضت قبضة من تراب لتقذفها بوجه الكلاب وبحثت عن حجارة ثم أخرى فأخرى فتقافزت الكلاب يمينا وشمالا بينما جرت خلفها الأرملة الشابة تصرخ وتنحني على الحجارة وتقذفها ثم تصرخ ثم تهيل التراب عاليا حتى خيل للمقدم الحديدي بأن المرأة قد جنت تماما وتحولت إلى مخبولة قادمة من أعماق البرية تعاقب كلابها السائبة وتسترد أشباحها في هذا العراء، بينما الكلاب تستمرئ اللعبة فتنقض من غير جهة على كيس النايلون الأسود المخصص للأزبال فتنقلب الأرملة الشابة عليها من جديد وتقذفها بالحجارة ثم تحضن الكيس ثم تصرخ وتقف منتصبة وتنحني على حجارة كبيرة فتتركها لتختار حجارة صغيرة أو قطعة حصى أخف وزنا فتقذفها مبهورة الأنفاس وقد سقطت عصابة رأسها فكشفت عن شعر أسود حنائي اللون مسترسل على ظهرها وكانت غدتها الدرقية قد انتفخت وبان طرف كبير من نهديه
